Concerts in the Garden offer music, fireworks

Music and fireworks return to the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens with the 19th annual Concerts in the Garden Summer Music Festival June 5 through July 5.

The series’ signature Independence Day shows feature the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra with conductor Andres Franco July 2-4. Each of the holiday shows is an old-fashioned family fireworks picnic with patriotic songs and arguably one of the best fireworks displays in the Metroplex.

Because of its popularity, organizers advise patrons to order a reserved table or general admission lawn tickets as soon as possible at fwsymphony.org or by calling (817) 665-6000.

As for the rest of the schedule, the first concert in the series features the Motown funk/pop band Mingo Fishtrap on June 5, followed by:

• June 6 — Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers

• June 7 — 1960s and '70s cover band The Crawfish

• June 14 — Riders in the Sky

• June 19 — Bluegrass band Cherryholmes

• June 20 — Jailhouse Rock Tribute to Elvis

• June 21 — Best of the Big Bands swing music

• June 26 — The N’Awlins Gumbo Kings

• June 27 — Take It to the Limit: Music of the Eagles

• June 28 — Stairway to Heaven: a Tribute to Led Zeppelin

All the shows include a fireworks display at the end.

Another stand-out on the schedule is the Super Awesome Laser Adventure June 12 and 13. This concert features popular music from Harry Potter, Star Wars and other well-known tunes by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra choreographed to a laser light show and fireworks.

The series rounds out on July 5, with the 1812 Overture performed by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and a performance by one of the 2009 Cliburn International Piano Competition medalists. The explosive 1812 Overture performance will be synchronized with a fireworks display.

At each outdoor performance, sections are set aside for blankets and lawn chairs or tables. Patrons are encouraged to bring a picnic and relax on their blanket or lawns chairs under the stars or reserve a patio-style table and chairs.

Lawn chairs are also available to rent at the show, and patrons can buy food and drinks, including beer and wine.

The Botanic Garden’s gates open at 6:30 p.m. for all shows and performances begin at 8 p.m. Concerts are on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays except for the Thursday performance on July 2.

Lawn seat tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the gate day of show. Kids 10 and younger get in to the lawn free if accompanied by an adult.

Prices for adult table seats range from $22-$42 in advance and $25-$45 at the gate for all concerts. Tickets for ages 10 and under are available at more than half off the advance adult ticket prices in selected table seating areas.

Children’s table tickets range from $10-$42 in advance and $10-$45 at the gate. A reserved table ticket provides one chair at a patio style table.

Tickets can be purchased at fwsymphony.org, by phone at (817) 665-6000, or in person at 330 E Fourth St., Suite200.
