Re-released in time for award season, “The Dark Knight,” arguably one of the best pictures of 2008, has swooped onto the big, big, BIG screen at the Fort Worth Omni Theater. This second chance to catch the late Heath Ledger’s Academy Award-winning performance as the Joker runs through March 5.
The second-highest grossing film of all time, “The Dark Knight” originally opened in theatres last July. “The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience®” features six sequences filmed with IMAX cameras (including the opening six minutes). This marks the first time a major feature film has been partially shot using IMAX cameras.
The IMAX version allows audiences to experience “The Dark Knight” on one of the world's largest screens, surrounded by state-of-the-art digital surround sound. The large domed screen practically encapsulates the audience like floating along in a giant eyeball.
Haven’t seen “The Dark Knight” before? This sequel to “Batman Begins” stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, Michael Caine as Alfred, Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Jim Gordon, Aaron Eckhart as District Attorney Harvey Dent, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes; Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and of course Ledger as the Joker. It’s rated PG-13 for “intense sequences of violence and some menace.”
The Fort Worth Omni Theater makes its home snuggled into the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. “The Dark Knight” tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children 3 to 12 years old and seniors 60 and up. FWMSH members receive a $2-3 discount. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or by phone at 817-255-9540. Learn more about prices and schedules here.
